According to the report, Warden Vernon Pitts, Municipality of the District of(MODG), stated that the was the perfect fit for the community. “You have Salsman Provincial Park up the road and Tate’s down the road. You have a few stores… I think it will be good for everybody.”
That thinking was what led to the MODG taking over the project that was struggling to get off the ground. Pitts stated that the Salsman Park Marina Association tried to move the ball forward with permitting and construction, but they were not getting enough movement from the province regarding applications for water leases, the report stated.
Balodis Construction was awarded the tender for the project at the May 19 council meeting. It cost $527,474 plus HST.
According to the report, some MODG staff were on-site in June to finish rough grading the site and remove excess fill before the contractor began their construction work. Balodis employees have begun construction of the floating.
Theassociation is expected to manage the facility, the report added.
Construction continues in the meantime.
