Batchawana Bay is nestled along the eastern coast of Lake Superior. Its name means “turbulent waters” in Ojibwa, but the bay is far from that on a calm, quiet evening or a bright, sunny day. Batchawana Island, which you can see from the shore, can be accessed by canoe or kayak on just such a day.
If you’re a nature lover then you can go for a hike, bike ride, or ATV on the trail out the back of the park that will take you for unlimited miles into the wilderness. Be sure to take your binoculars and camera for some bird watching, wild life sightings or just to check the view of some far-off mountain top.
Have a quiet, peaceful campfire or go for a stroll, bike ride, or even 4 wheeling into the wilderness out back, into a world of waterfalls, rivers, creeks, wild berries, wild flowers, wildlife, fishing, exploring, and way more than enough fresh air. Enjoy!!!!!
Across the road is 3 km of sand beach for swimming, canoeing or kayaking. This beach is one of the best for children due to it’s sandbars offering a shallow and gradual slope all with sandy bottom. This shallow water makes it perfect for hot windless days to heat up to the perfect temperature.
Explore the beautiful rivers and bays of Lake Superior along with the countless inland lakes. Some of the accessible ones are Pancake Bay, Pancake River, Alona Bay, Old Woman Bay, Agawa Bay and River, Hibbert Bay, Carp River, Batchawana River and many, many small inland lakes, such as Mammainse Lake, Jocco Lake, Pancake Lake, Upper and Lower Tilley Lakes, Pipe Lake and just too many more to list.
